Challenge:

To provide targeted food safety information for specific categories of foods regulated by FDA

The JMH Solution:

JMH created simple brochures to make food safety information "accessible" to consumers. The brochures provide easy steps for ensuring the safety of certain foods, while encouraging consumers to continue to include these nutritious foods in their regular diets. This approach supports the dual mission of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) - to ensure the safety and wholesomeness of the U.S. food supply from the farm to the table. Safe Handling of Raw Produce and Fresh-Squeezed Fruit and Vegetable Juices includes buying, storage and preparation tips, with a special section on unpasteurized juices, which have caused foodborne illness outbreaks in the U.S. Fresh and Frozen Seafood: Selecting and Serving It Safely covers safe handling of seafood from shopping through serving. It also provides specific information on consumption of raw seafood, and special health notes for at-risk audiences, who are a focal point of in FDA's food safety education efforts.
