Spike's Poison Prevention Adventure

Poison Awareness Program
Preschool – Kindergarten

Audience:

Preschool children and their parents and/or caregivers

Challenge:

To reach young children and their parents with poison prevention basics presented in an engaging and interactive manner.

The JMH Solution:

JMH created an interactive program that teaches young children to always ask an adult before touching, tasting, or smelling a potentially poisonous substance. In addition, it teaches adults preventative measures and what to do in the event that an accidental poisoning does occur. To make the program appealing to children, JMH created Spike, a friendly porcupine, as the poison prevention mascot. Spike's Quills Up – Stay Away . . . Quills Down – It's OK message teaches kids how to stay safe around the house. This kit includes a video that tells Spike's poison prevention story, which students can interact with using the reproducible Spike paper puppets. Also, included: an information-filled take-home for parents, a teacher's guide, and Poison Control stickers for students to take home.
