Food Safety for Moms-to-Be
Community Outreach
Adults/Families
Audience:
Pregnant women, new mothers, families of pregnant women, health professionals and educators, women who are planning to conceive specifically to women during pregnancy.
Challenge:
To alert consumers that pregnant women are more susceptible to foodborne illness because their immune systems are suppressed during pregnancy, and to educate about three specific risks to pregnant women and their unborn babies
The JMH Solution:
JMH created a complete bi-lingual community education kit to inform pregnant women and other interested parties about foodborne risk in general, along with three critical health risks for pregnant women and their unborn babies: Listeria, Methylmercury and Toxoplasma gondii. The Community Education Kit kicks off with an engaging, documentary-style video, and includes a Powerpoint® presentation and take-home materials. For a wider audience, the Web site offers a complete education guide, fact sheets, FAQs and more. All components are provided in English and Spanish.
