Audience:

Primary: Middle school students Secondary: Middle school teachers, nurses, administrators and parents

Challenge:

To promote good health and reduce absenteeism through proper handwashing. Each year, nearly 22 million school days are lost due to the common cold. According to the CDC, the single most important way to keep from getting sick and spreading illness to others is to practice proper handwashing

The JMH Solution:

JMH created an innovative, grassroots campaign for the entire middle school community – students, teachers, nurses, administrators and parents – that promotes handwashing as a key to healthy schools and reduced student and teacher absenteeism. Designed to get the entire school community talking about school health, Healthy Schools, Healthy People . . . It's a SNAP integrates easy-to-use activities about the spread of disease and the importance of handwashing into the existing curriculum. Student teams create "clean hands awareness campaigns" to share with their classes and school communities. Campaigns can be submitted to a National Recognition Program for such awards as a trip to Washington D.C. to attend the It's a SNAP awards presentation, class pizza parties, and inclusion on the Clean Hands Honor Roll.
